About this place
Built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan between 1632 and 1653 in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal is widely considered the finest example of Mughal architecture. The white marble mausoleum sits on a raised plinth flanked by four minarets and a charbagh garden, with the Yamuna River behind. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the seven wonders of the modern world. Sunrise viewing is unmissable.
