About this place
Begun in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II — the founder of Udaipur — and added to by his successors over more than 400 years, the City Palace is the largest palace complex in Rajasthan. Built on a granite ridge above Lake Pichola, the complex contains 11 mahals connected by zig-zag corridors designed to confuse invaders. The mirror room, peacock courtyard and museum collections of Mewar miniatures are unmissable.
